Update

Biked 55 miles this weekend with the Campbells. Bruce is a maniac. Burned 2500 calories and rode by the largest alpaca ranch in California. Plan to go back the 2nd Saturday of August for their open house.

Getting ready to sign up for tri #3 - my first road bike triathlon. It's in Carpinteria. Chickening out of Olympic distance (1.5k swim/40k bike/10k run). Going to do sprint distance instead (0.5k swim/15k bike/5k run).

Also chickening out of the 100 mile bike option for the MS ride. 60 miles looks far enough for now. Need to sign up and start raising moneys.

Went to the Griffith Observatory for the first time ever. Planetarium ruled. Can't wait to go again for a laser light show. Video of Jason and I eating pizza before going to the observatory here.

Loving my new MacBook. Finally getting around to digitizing all my CDs. Rad compilations I have enjoyed listening to again:

Straight Edge as Fuck Volume 3 (Victory Records)
Status Records Sampler (circa 1998?) - Need track list for this.
Initial Extreme!!! (Initial Records)

I might start listening to hardcore again.

New Bike

Just picked up my new road bike today. Thinking of getting one of these cat cocoons so Craig can bike with me.

Description from the designer's site:

Cat at home?

Cocoon allows it can transport its cat not only on foot but also in cycle.

Galena Ave

I was driving home from work. I wanted to stop by the post office to drop a package in the mail. Autopilot kicked in and before I realized, I was turning on my street. I forgot to make the turn for the post office. This has happened before but it freaked me out today. How our brain will just automatically do what it’s used to doing. What if I don’t want to? It seems easy to just be on autopilot for your whole life, never doing what you really want to do. I don’t want to do this. Have to remember to make that turn on Galena.

Corpse Flower

Past weekend adventures included seeing the corpse flower at The Huntington Library. It did not stink like a corpse because it had not bloomed yet. It looked like this:

It's grown about 4 feet in the past 2 weeks, now over 6 feet tall, and is expected to bloom tomorrow. They had a squeeze bottle full of corpse flower scent available for squeezing and inhaling.

Pallas' Cat

Pretty amazing day yesterday. First went to the Indian Point Ostrich Ranch and let a few ostriches peck at my hand. Then off to the Feline Conservation Center where I saw so many cats! Highlight of the day being the Pallas' Cat, otherwise known as a hybrid monkey cat. Look how cute the babies are!
